Patrick Dempsey, cast member of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, will be stepping up the gas once again, as he drives the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 this May. He is actually set to lead the drivers to the green flag at the frontier of the race.
In line with Dempsey’s participation in the Indianapolis 500, many have actually noticed his passion, growth and determination to succeed in the sport, especially Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Joie Chitwood.
Dempsey will be joining other celebrities just like in last year’s competition, where Lance Armstrong was hailed as the winner.
Dempsey isn’t actually a novice when it comes to racecar driving. In fact, he takes pleasure in the sport when he is not preoccupied with his work. He has been a part of numerous competitions and racing events, participating in the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Panoz Series, Pro Miata Series, and Baja 1000 just to name a few. In addition, he is also a co-owner of Indycar Series team Vision Racing.
The Indianapolis 500 is probably something Dempsey would look forward to as he already mentioned before that he greatly enjoys racing even more than working in Grey’s Anatomy. Although it is very unlikely that he would leave the popular medical drama, which established his stance on the television circuit, for the racetrack.
Dempsey, a 41-year old native of Lewiston, Maine, is currently portraying Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy. Prior to his inclusion on Grey’
s Anatomy, he worked in films like Can’t Buy Me Love, Loverboy, Happy Together, Scream 3 and Sweet Home Alabama among others. He also graced the television world with guest appearances on shows like Once & Again, Will & Grace and Iron Jawed Angels.
To catch more of Patrick Dempsey, watch Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday at 9/8C on ABC.
